FAQs

  • What is SBoC and why did we change our name?

Tackle Hunger is what we do—all year long.
Hunger doesn’t take a break, and neither do we. Through our signature event, the Souper Bowl of Caring, we unite communities to support local food charities. But hunger is a year-round challenge, so our programs go beyond just one event. We work every day to get critical resources to food charities of all sizes.
Find and support one near you at our Tackle Hunger Map.

  • What is SBoC?

Souper Bowl of Caring is our signature event which has been uniting communities to tackle hunger for 35 years. It inspires care and compassion for neighbors in need. By working together to #TackleHunger, groups and caring individuals host fundraising events for their local food charity using the energy of the Big Game to encourage people to make sure “no one goes without a bowl of soup to eat.” Check out ABOUT US or HISTORY page to learn more of who we are and what we do.

This year, Tackle Hunger is responsible for over $22 million in cash, food and in-kind donations that went directly to local charities to get to those in need. • How can I register for Souper Bowl of Caring?

This year (2025), we are using a simple form to register groups for the Souper Bowl of Caring event. Just click here and fill out the information and we will make sure your group is part of the event! Since we are in the process of upgrading our very complex participant portal, this year is a bit different than most. We appreciate your patience and rest assured, your group's history and information are all safe in our database.

  • Why do I need to register?

Registered Tackle Hunger participants receive FREE resources in the mail to help guide your collection and opportunities to stay connected during the annual campaigns through newsletters, local events and social media. Once registered, report your team’s success to be added to the national total, share stories, pictures and inspire others. It costs nothing to participate in this nationwide movement to tackle hunger.

  • How can I find my group's history for past Souper Bowl of Caring events?

This year, we are in the middle of a large upgrade to our systems that allow groups to register and report their totals for Souper Bowl of Caring or other Tackle Hunger events. Because of that, we are having people fill out a simple form for both registering and reporting their totals for the 2025 season. Rest assured, your history is still in our database, but you will have to email us at info@tacklehunger.org and we will send your history to you so that you might encourage more participation to add to your historic totals. Thank you for your patience while we upgrade a very old system. Just call or email if you have any questions at all and we will be glad to help you!

  • What do I do after my Tackle Hunger/Souper Bowl of Caring event?

REPORT your collection and be counted towards the National Total. You can do this in several different ways:

    Use the Report form here.

Email your collection totals to Reports@tacklehunger.org

    Call 1.800.358.SOUP (7687)

Then DONATE 100% of your collection directly to your charity of choice.

  • Why do I need to report my collection?

Your collection counts! Each collection reported, whether small or large, shows the cumulative effort of thousands of groups working together across the country to #TackleHunger and #ChangetheGame, while having a significant impact in local communities.

  • How does Tackle Hunger come up with the National Total?

The National Total is comprised of cash donations and non-perishable items collected by each participating group. These are both reported through self-reports of groups hosting in-person events that they take directly to the charity of their choice and through the total donated through our Tackle Hunger Map. Since formulas vary across each state, we keep it simple and value each non-perishable as one dollar.

  • If 100% of money raised is donated directly to charities, how is Tackle Hunger: Home of the Souper Bowl of Caring funded?

Souper Bowl of Caring relies on donations from caring people like you and community partners to help grow this movement, maximizing every dollar donated for administrative costs. A gift of any size can go a long way as each dollar donated to us created over $26 for food charities in 2025. DONATE today.

  • What do you mean by "critical resources" as it relates to food charities?

Only a fraction of food charities only provide their clients with food and nothing else. Many provide clothing, toiletries, gifts and toys (especially at the holidays) and even help with bills. We want to be sure food charities have access to a support network that can help them provide critical resources like these to families in need. That is why we partner with organizations that help with these other resources. Because if we can help food charities get more of their resources within their budget, they can serve more people and no one goes without a bowl of soup to eat.

  • Where do I order Tackle Hunger/Souper Bowl of Caring materials and t-shirts?

Check out our TEAM STORE for a variety of merchandise including our new branding and our classic styles and campaign support materials. Please allow a minimum of 2-weeks for delivery.

  • Can we choose Tackle Hunger/Souper Bowl of Caring as our charity of choice?

Yes, if you choose to collect donations for Souper Bowl of Caring as your charity of choice, you can make a tax-deductible donation to help support administration costs, enable us to provide FREE resources to participating groups, attend hunger-relief and youth conferences and grow the Tackle Hunger Map program benefiting food charities across the country. For every $25 Souper Bowl of Caring receives we can generate $650 for hunger-relief charities across the nation just last year.
